Fuld Scholars

Fuld Scholars should include ePortfolio content to highlight their service and work with vulnerable populations. This section of a student’s ePortfolio will be a post (“Fuld Scholarship”) with four entries connected by the category “Fuld.” Students may reflect on content or experiences from their course work.

You may cut and paste or revisit your application to explain the Fuld Scholarship.

The Helene Fuld Health Trust is the nation’s largest trust devoted exclusively to student nurses and nursing education. Helene Schwab Fuld had a passionate interest in health during her lifetime. After her death in 1923, her children Leonhard and Florentine created a foundation to honor her memory. Leonhard was a fervent advocate for public health, and in the early 1960’s he focused the foundation’s giving to “the improvement of the health and welfare of student nurses.”

Entry 1: Service Learning (first semester)

Students will write a post about their service learning, either past or present. Passport requires hours of service and a reflection, thus students could write about that, or they could highlight the experiences that qualified them for the scholarship.

Entry 2: Working with Vulnerable Populations (second semester)

Students will connect their learning across multiple courses or from one course to an experience in regard to working with vulnerable populations. Students may connect course content concepts related to vulnerable populations (for example, comparing and contrasting information learned in Mental Health and Adult Health). Another possibility is for students to connect course content with a prior experience or with a present experience where they are working with a vulnerable population. The format of this reflection may be audio or video as opposed to textual, creating a project that may qualify for the multimodal badge.

Entry 3: Leadership (third semester)

Students will connect their learning across multiple courses to demonstrate their leadership skills incorporating evidence from two courses and reflecting on their ideas about leadership in nursing. Possible evidence may be from EBP 2 (infographic), Integrating Experiences III content, or Leadership.

Entry 4: Final Fuld Reflection (fourth semester)

Students will reflect on their future plans. What are their immediate plans after graduation? Where do they hope to be in five years?  Do they expect to work with a vulnerable population?
